  • SPSY 780 - Systems-Level Prevention, Crisis Intervention, and Family Services

    Description This course is designed to prepare school psychology students to design, implement, and evaluate programs that promote childrens’s mental health, academic success, and social competence. Population-based, prevention-oriented school psychological practices will be emphasized.  In order to deliver these services, school psychology students will become familiar with the science of prevention, systems theory, systems consultation and policy development, system-wide models of service delivery with multiple levels of intervention intensity, crisis intervention, and empirically-supported family services.

  • SPSY 782 - Instructional Strategies, Assessment, and Intervention

    Description This course will introduce the application of intervention development for classrooms and individuals and the design of instruction for school psychologists. The following processes will be emphasized: planning and conducting needs assessments, planning and conducting standardized academic assessments, planning and conducting curriculum-based assessments, identifying objectives, devising evaluations, characterizing the client and audience, and selecting appropriate instructional strategies for clients in the field of school psychology.

    Description Covers many standard nonparametric methods of analysis. Methods will be compared with one another and with parametric methods where applicable. This course will examine changing views of sexual orientation and gender diversity, including the history of pathologizing LGBTQ individuals within the mental health field.
