PHYS 551 - Classical Mechanics (C) 4 cr hrs
Description This is a systematic introduction to classical mechanics emphasizing motion in three dimensions. Topics include central forces, harmonic oscillations, non-inertial reference frames, rigid body motion, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Mechanics.
Prerequisites and Corequisites Prerequisites: PHYS 113 - Introduction to Physics II or PHYS 213 - University Physics II and MATH 321 - Differential Equations, or permission of the instructor.
Notes (C) denotes Common Course.
Includes the study of Newton’s Laws, motion in one and three dimensions, & rotations of rigid bodies.
