LAW 864 - Health Care Law & Policy

2-3 cr hrs

Description A survey course that has incorporated traditional “Law and Medicine” materials with contemporary “Law and Policy” analyses of the American Health Care System. The course examines provider- dominated health care, its transformation from professionalism to commercialism, and the role of economic policy, medical politics and the law in its formation. Law students are exposed to an industry that consumes significant levels of legal services and has fostered the emergence of health law specialization. It provides a virtual laboratory for the application of the law of insurance, torts, contracts, tax, with special emphasis on antitrust law.
