LAW 709 - Foundations of Law 1 cr hrs
Description This course introduces first-year law students to foundational legal concepts, themes, and issues. Its goal is simple: to provide students with the foundational understandings necessary to succeed in both the study and practice of law. More specifically, the course seeks to place law within a wider historical and philosophical perspective, to relate specific doctrines students learn in other doctrinal first-year courses to one another and to the wider legal system, and to introduce the students to areas of law not otherwise represented in the first-year curriculum. Ultimately, students will gain a better appreciation of both their potential place within the legal profession and the broader functions of law within society.
