LAW 856 - National Security Law

Description This survey course will focus on the varied concerns that impact the balance between liberty and security when responding to threats to the safety of the nation. Topics will include constitutional structure and the federal division of authority regarding decision-making in the national-security context; the relationship between civil liberties and protection against national security threats; and other topics related to the legal framework governing national security operations, including: cybersecurity; surveillance and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court; the evolving terrorism threat and national security counterterrorism strategy; and legal issues in maritime national security policy.
