Major Area Coursework

• Master’s coursework 30 credit hours (from USD or an equivalent Master’s degree in Chemistry from a qualifying institution)

• Graduate Seminar 6 credit hours

• CHEM 898D - DISSERTATION RESEARCH IN CHEMISTRY (C) (40 credit hours required)

•  

• 12 credit hours from the courses below are required of all doctoral students. (Note, students must choose Solid State Physics or Solid State Chemistry but may not count both toward their program of study.)

• CHEM 521 - SPECTROSCOPIC ANALYSIS (C)
• CHEM 720 - SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF NANO-STRUCTURED MATERIALS (C)
• CHEM 736 - ADVANCED PHOTOVOLTAICS (C)
• CHEM 722 - SOLID STATE CHEMISTRY AND CRYSTALLOGRAPHY
• CHEM 723 - LUMINESCENCE SPECTROSCOPY OF MATERIALS (C)
• CHEM 724 - ELECTROCHEMISTRY
• PHYS 539 - SOLID STATE PHYSICS (C) (3 hours required)

• * Appropriate courses may be substituted in the student’s program of study with the approval of the Department Chair and Graduate Dean.

   

• Note: Up to 6 cr hrs of electives from the master’s program may be counted as electives in the doctoral program with approval of the department chair and graduate program coordinator.
