French Studies (B.A.)

Students with a high school or other background in French may earn credit by examination for introductory and intermediate level courses. Consult department for details.

Students are encouraged to study abroad for a semester or a year, usually during their junior year. Credit for FREN 385: Travel and Study Abroad in Francophone may be available.

Course availability may vary due to collaborative scheduling. Please consult the department for more information about course options and possible substitutions.

French Studies majors are strongly encouraged to take HIST 121/122 in partial fulfillment of the social sciences requirement and should consider taking MFL 440/LING 403 in partial fulfillment of the humanities requirement. The Department of Language, Linguistics & Philosophy also sponsors occasional faculty-led programs to French-speaking countries (ordinarily during the summer) in which students may be interested.
