	DCOM 725 - OAEs AND BALANCE FUNCTION TESTING 3 cr hrs Description This course will cover the underlying scientific principles and administration/interpretation of otoacoustic emissions and balance function testing. Emphasis will be placed on integration of special test outcomes with presenting complaints, otologic sequelae, and results of basic audiologic and site-of-lesion test measures. 	DCOM 726 - ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF HEARING 3 cr hrs Description Course content will include the detailed study of the structure and function of the peripheral auditory mechanism from the external ear to the cochlear and vestibular end organs. 	DCOM 727 - PEDIATRIC AUDIOLOGY 3 cr hrs Description Course content will consist of theories and methods of audiologic screening, assessment, and intervention in the infant and child population, including early intervention strategies. The course will focus in depth on assessment modifications indicated for children of different ages and the role of the pediatric and/or educational audiologist in the assessment of hearing disorders in children. 	DCOM 728 - CENTRAL AUDITORY NEUROPHYSIOLOGY AND ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY 3 cr hrs Description This course consists of the detailed study of the structure and function of the central auditory nervous system (CANS). Special emphasis will be placed on the neurophysiologic bases of speech perception signal averaging theory, and the utility of auditory event related potentials in the assessment of functional integrity of the CANS from auditory nerve to cortex. 	DCOM 729 - PATHOLOGIES OF HEARING 3 cr hrs Description Students will be provided an overview of etiologies that affect the ear and hearing. This course will emphasize the medical model of audiology, encompassing otologic and audiologic signs and symptoms of auditory system pathology, differential diagnostic findings, and treatment methods. 	DCOM 730 - CENTRAL AUDITORY PROCESSING DISORDERS 3 cr hrs Description This course will orient the student to current perspectives in and methods of screening for, differentially diagnosing, and managing central auditory processing disorders from a multidisciplinary perspective. Although the primary focus of this course will be auditory processing disorders in school-aged children and the role of various members of the educational team (e.g., audiologist, speech-language pathologist, educational psychologist, special educator, and others), information also will be applicable to the adult population. 	DCOM 786 - ADVANCED RESEARCH METHODS IN AUDIOLOGY 3 cr hrs Description In this course, students will learn the steps involved in planning, carrying out, and completing a qualitative, quantitative, or mixed design research project in audiology. Focus will be both on production of the various stages of research, as well as on critical analysis of current research articles in the audiology and related literature. Due to the presence of a field experience supervisor, a lower level of supervision is provided by the instructor in these courses than is the case with an Internship or Practicum course. 	ECON 532 - ECONOMICS OF STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS 3 cr hrs Description This course discusses the problems and policies of raising and spending revenue by sub-national governments. The scope is broad enough to include not only the tax sources of states, counties, municipalities, and school districts but borrowing and grants-in-aid as well. 	ECON 533 - PUBLIC FINANCE 3 cr hrs Description Public Finance covers the role of government in the United States economy. The necessity of government in a market economy, optimality in government expenditures and taxation, and a survey of patterns and trends of governmental economic activity are discussed. 	ECON 545 - INTERNATIONAL MACROECONOMICS 3 cr hrs Description International Macroeconomics covers models of international macroeconomics and exchange rates. Students will analyze the implications of international macroeconomic policy on the well-being of the global economy as well as the economies of individual countries including such variables as GDP, unemployment, the trade balance and inflation. 	ECON 580 - FOUNDATIONS OF ECONOMICS 3 cr hrs Description Foundations of Economics rigorously develops the fundamental concepts of micro- and macroeconomics. The theory of consumer behavior and the theory of the firm dominate the microeconomic section of the course, while the macroeconomic section analyzes equilibrium national income, employment and prices.
