NATV 360 - Oceti Sakowin Oyate and the 1934 Indian Reorganization Act


This course examines the history and evolution of the 1934 Indian Reorganization Act (IRA) and its specific application to the Oceti Sakowin Oyate. In particular the course will investigate how the Dakota/Lakota/Nakota reservations responded to the IRA since its application. This course includes a comparative analysis of the constitutions adopted by the Dakota/Lakota/Nakota people and their on-going struggle over the act’s legitimacy.
