DCOM 716 - ADVANCED TOPICS IN AURAL REHABILITATION

Description This course will provide students with an overview of the processes involved in helping those with hearing loss cope with their hearing handicap. The theoretical constructs involved in psychosocial counseling will be covered to help the student to apply this methodology in practical situations. The concepts discussed in this course will include: active listening, informational and psychosocial counseling, humanistic psychology, adult education (andragogy), group and brief aural rehabilitation process, and the emotional impact that hearing handicap has on the individual.
