PHIL 422 - Social and Political Philosophy Study of classical theories of social and political organization that have been influential in the formation of contemporary social and political practice, including views of Plato, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Marx and J.S. Mill. Focus is on bases of legitimate authority; rights and duties of citizenship and the role of the state with respect to individual liberty.
