History (B.A., B.S.)

36 MAJOR HOURS, 120 DEGREE HOURS

Departmental Electives (21 hours)


A minimum of 6 hours of American History and a minimum of 6 hours of non-American history must be included.

Emphases


Emphases provide guidance to students who wish to focus their studies in one of the directions identified. Students are not required to choose an emphasis. Emphases are not recorded on transcripts.

Note


Topics courses will be taken in the areas of “Cold War,” and “US in World Affairs 1760-1900.”

Pre-Law Studies


A History major wishing to prepare for law school should consider the following courses as part of the pre-law curriculum.  Of the courses listed, only HIST 461 will count towards the History major.

History B.A. or B.S. with Secondary School Certification


A secondary school teaching degree may be acquired through the Department of History (B.A. or B.S.) or through the School of Education (B.S. Ed.).  Students who wish to obtain certification to teach secondary school must also complete coursework and testing in the School of Education. Please contact the History Department or the School of Education for further information.
