In addition to meeting the general requirements of The Graduate School, candidates for degrees must complete all specific program requirements as listed in the departmental Graduate Student Handbook and as indicated by the Graduate Advisory Committee. All candidates must pass a final written and/or oral examination as determined by the Graduate Advisory Committee. Double-Major Option: Students in the M.A. program may, with special permission, major in two disciplines and obtain a double major.

Master of Arts in Theatre Program
The Master of Arts in Theatre focuses on theatre dramaturgy and is designed for those students wishing to enter the field as literary managers and dramaturgs for regional theatres, or who wish to continue their studies in PhD programs. The program follows a course of study grounded in dramaturgy, dramatic literature, script analysis, theatre history, and performance studies. The program is offered with two program options: Plan A, a thesis option requiring completion of at least 30 credit hours of approved graduate course work, and Plan B, a non–thesis option requiring completion of at least 32 credit hours of approved graduate course work, with at least 24 hours in theatre. Final program approval rests with the candidate’s graduate advisory committee. In Plan A, a scholarly thesis may fulfill program requirements; in Plan B, a paper of record is required to demonstrate research and writing competency. The M.A. Program of Study Includes: Master of Arts, Theatre, Plan A (thesis): Total 30 credit hours

- Thesis 6 credit hours (2 semesters)
- Supporting courses in outside area 3 credit hours
Master of Arts, Theatre, Plan B (non–thesis): Total 32 credit hours
