1. The student must earn a “C” as a minimum grade in all courses required for the nursing major.
2. Required sequence
a. PHGY 220 and PHGY 220L must be taken prior to or concurrent with NURS 206
b. PHGY 230 and PHGY 230L must be taken prior to or concurrent with NURS 261
c. MATH 102 must be taken prior to or concurrent with NURS 282
3. Contact and Credit hours
a. Contact Hours
Theory: 1 credit hour = 1 contact hour per week per semester
Learning Lab/Clinical: 1 credit hour = 3 contact hours per week per semester
b. Nursing credit ratios
NURS 204 1:0 (1 credit hour = 1 theory hour)
NURS 206 5:3 (8 credit hours = 5 theory hours and 3 clinical/lab hours)
NURS 261 5:4 (9 credit hours = 5 theory hours and 4 clinical/lab hours)
NURS 282 4:4 (8 credit hours = 4 theory hours and 4 clinical/lab hours)
NURS 286 4:5 (9 credit hours = 4 theory hours and 5 clinical/lab hours) Required Testing:
The South Dakota Board of Regents Proficiency Examination: All students seeking undergraduate degrees must achieve satisfactory performance on The South Dakota Board of Regents Proficiency Examination, the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) or have shown previous proficiency through one of the following ways: ACT composite score of 24 or higher; SAT Verbal/Math score of 1090 or higher; ACT subscore equivalencies (English: 18, Math: 22, Reading: 22, Science: 23); or have already earned a Bachelor’s degree or Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from an accredited institution within the United States. Students pursuing an Associate degree must take the examination as soon as they have passed 32 credit hours. For additional information see Testing Requirements
