Audiology Doctorate (Au.D.)

The Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.) program is a four-year post-baccalaureate program consisting of three years of didactic coursework and on- and off-campus clinical rotations and a fourth year, full-time, external clinical placement. Students also are required to complete a research capstone project during their third year of study. The department’s graduate programs in audiology and in speech-language pathology are nationally accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

Elective graduate courses are available both within and outside the department. Nine credit hours of supporting course work are required. Of these, three credit hours must be taken outside DCOM. The remaining six credit hours may be taken either in DCOM or in another discipline, but must not be in audiology. Note:

All graduate students working toward the completion of graduate degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders must meet the academic and clinical practicum requirements for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in their area of emphasis (Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology) by the end of their degree program. The ASHA requirements may be waived for international students. In addition, all graduate students are required to pass a comprehensive examination in the final semester of their graduate study. The Communication Sciences and Disorders faculty will determine the content, form, and the length of the examination. Specific academic and clinical practicum requirements for the degrees and national certification are contained in the department’s Student Handbook. Consult your advisor or the department chairperson.

Items marked with an “*” can be taken at the undergraduate level and can range from 3-15 credit hours. If all five courses are fulfilled at the undergraduate level, the total number of credit hours required for this degree will equate to 115 credit hours. If none of the courses are fulfilled at the undergraduate level, the degree will require 130 credit hours.
