The Arts Management major prepares students for a variety of careers that combine a background in the arts with the knowledge and skills of business management such as: non-profit arts administration; arts fundraising; gallery, music, theatre, or venue management; public relations; and special events coordination. This is an interdisciplinary program that, in addition to courses within the College of Fine Arts, draws coursework from the Beacom School of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences. It will appeal to individuals who have an interest or love of the arts but who wish to work on the business side rather than as a performer or teacher.
Professionals who work in the field of arts management benefit from an understanding of the arts as well as the needs of artists and the arts culture in which they work. In addition, arts management professionals require knowledge of various aspects of business, including marketing, accounting, financial management, business entity structures, and fundraising. The Arts Management program therefore provides a uniquely balanced curriculum that prepares students to be competitive in the fastest growing industry in the country–the entertainment field.
