Indian Law Certificate

Program Overview

This program provides graduates with a tangible credential that will assist those working in-house for tribes, at firms that serve tribes, and at government agencies, as well as in related areas. The certificate will enable law graduates to demonstrate competency in federal Indian law and tribal law to potential employers and will give new graduates a strong foundation in those areas.

DELIVERY: On campus 

Certificate Requirements - 12 Credit Hours Required

• LAW 803 - Trusts & Wills 1-4 cr (4 credit hours required)
• LAW 804 - Tribal Courts & Tribal Law 1-2 cr (2 credit hours required)
• LAW 849 - Indian Gaming and Economic Development 2-3 cr (2 credit hours required) *
• LAW 883 - Indian Law 1-4 cr (3 credit hours required)
• LAW 895 - Practicum (C) 1-3 cr in Tribal Wills [I or II] (1 credit hour required)

  * Note: If a student has difficulty fitting Indian Gaming & Economic Development into their schedule or it is not offered, the student could seek permission to substitute Federal Jurisdiction (LAW 808) or Administrative Law (LAW 805), although the preference would be for them to take LAW 849 Indian Gaming & Economic Development if at all possible.

Application Requirements

This program is only available to students enrolled at the Knudson School of Law. Students must meet all admission requirements to the JD program.
