The purpose of this minor is to train future educators to work with children who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing (D/HH).

Program Requirements (18 hours)

DCOM 212 - Language Development *
DCOM 423 - Auditory Assistive Strategies and Technology, and Communication Development in Persons Who Are D/HH *
DCOM 428 - American Sign Language I (C)
DCOM 429 - American Sign Language II
DCOM 496 - Field Experience (C) (3 credit hours required)
Select one of the following:
ELED 470 - Literacy Methods for ELL & D/HH Learners
SEED 470 - Literacy Methods for ELL & D/HH Learners

Note:

*DCOM 212 and DCOM 423 can be used to satisfy the requirement for a major in Communication Sciences and Disorders as well as a minor in Deaf Education.

Students who complete a Communication Studies and Disorders major are allowed to complete a Deaf Education minor.
