Essential Workforce Skills Certificate

Program Overview:

This certificate provides an opportunity to engage South Dakota high school students with a credential that allows them to take meaningful college courses that count toward a future degree while developing essential skills for career readiness (communication and problem solving). The certificate includes courses that are part of the foundational general education core and is, therefore, a stackable credential that applies toward any associate or bachelor’s degree. The Essential Workforce Skills certificate focuses on the development of communication, quantitative literacy, inquiry and analysis, and critical thinking skills.

Certificate Requirements - 12-13 Credit Hours Required

• ENGL 101 - Composition I (C) [SGR #1, HSDC]
• MATH 103 - Mathematical Reasoning (C) [SGR #5, HSDC] or higher 3-4cr

• CMST 101 - Foundations of Communication (C) [SGR #2, HSDC]
