Art history examines the visual arts in relation to the time, place and culture in which the art was created, from prehistory to the present. Through examination of the visual arts and how they have shaped cultures, students will gain a fuller understanding of the world and its peoples. The Department of Art offers a minor in Art History, in consultation with the department chairperson. The minimum number of hours required for an art history minor is 18. Art History minors are required to complete ARTH 211 and ARTH 212 before completing 12 credit hours of advanced art history (ARTH) courses.
