NATV 365 - Oceti Sakowin Oyate and South Dakota


This course examines the relationship between the Oceti Sakowin Oyate [define]and the people of South Dakota. Of importance in this relationship is the impact of statehood on the Oceti Sakowin Oyate, the attitude of the state toward Native peoples and their governments, and the various state laws and policies that have affected or continue to affect Natives. Also, the course studies Native participation in state politics and how this alters Native self-government and self-determination.
