HIST 478 - Native American History to 1890 This course introduces students to an overview of Native American history from contact to the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890. Themes include impact and responses to European contact, conquest and colonization, empire building, removal and dispossession from traditional lands, treaty making and the origins of federal Indian policy. Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiian peoples and histories will also be included.
