LAW 808 - Federal Courts and the Federal System

Description This course addresses the role of the federal courts in our system of government, focusing on relevant constitutional and statutory provisions, theoretical debates, and jurisdictional doctrines and concepts.  Topics may include justiciability, congressional power to curtail the jurisdiction of federal courts, officer and state/tribal governmental immunities, Supreme Court review of state court judgments, federal court deference to tribal courts, 42 U.S.C. § 1983, abstention, and habeas corpus.
