The College is administratively structured to include the Departments of Art, Music, and Theatre, and the Black Hills Fine Arts Center (Black Hills Playhouse), America’s National Music Museum and Center for Study of the History of Musical Instruments, the University Art Galleries, the South Dakota Fine Arts Resource Center, and the Arts Outreach Program.

The Regents of Education established the College of Fine Arts on September 25, 1930. The Department of Art is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design; the Department of Music is accredited as a member of the National Association of Schools of Music; and the Department of Theatre is an institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre. The American Association of Museums accredits America’s National Music Museum.
