The French program at USD is cooperatively delivered with NSU and SDSU.

Students in this major must also complete requirements for a degree in the College of Arts & Sciences .

FREN 201 - Intermediate French I (C) [SGR #4]
FREN 202 - Intermediate French II (C) [SGR #4]
FREN 310 - French Language Skills (C)
Select one of the following courses (3 cr):
FREN 333 - Topics in Francophone Culture (C)
FREN 350 - Business Communication in French (C)
FREN 353 - Exploring Literature in French (C)
FREN electives at the 300 or 400 level (15 cr)

      Note: FREN 395 is limited to 2 credits.

               At least 6 credits must be completed at the 400 level.

Notes

Students with a high school or other background in French may earn credit by examination for introductory and intermediate level courses. Consult the Credit by Examination policy in the Academic Policies section of the catalog for details.

Students are encouraged to study abroad for a semester or a year, usually during their junior year. Credit for FREN 385: Travel and Study Abroad in Francophone may be available.

Course availability may vary due to collaborative scheduling. Please consult the department for more information about course options and possible substitutions.

The Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics also sponsors occasional faculty-led programs to French-speaking countries (ordinarily during the summer) in which students may be interested. In addition, USD students may study on exchange at the University of Pau, France.

Secondary Education/French Teacher (B.A.)

Students must have a CGPA of 2.6 to co-register for EDFN 338 and SEED 296 and to be admitted to Teacher Education. Beginning Summer 2015, students must have a CGPA of 2.7 to be admitted to the Teacher Education Program.
