Native Studies (B.A.)

34-35 Major Hours, 120 Degree Hours

Students in this major must also complete requirements for a degree in the College of Arts & Sciences .

The general major requires 35 hours, including 17 hours of required core courses. Beyond the required core courses, students must complete 18 hours of electives from LAKL and/or NATV, of which at least nine hours must be at the upper-division level (300-400). Students may elect a Native Studies major with specialization either in Oceti Sakowin Oyate Studies or Lakota language.

Select 18 hours of electives or a 17 hour specialization


 Native Studies Major without specialization (35 hours). Native Studies with specialization (34 hours).

Lakota Language Specialization (Optional) 17 hours


Native Studies Major with a Lakota Language Specialization (34 hours)

For this specialization, in addition to the core requirements, students must take the following Native Studies courses:

Oceti Sakowin Oyate Studies Specialization (Optional) 17 hours


Native Studies Major with an Oceti Sakowin Oyate Studies Specialization (34 hours).

For this specialization, in addition to the core requirements, students must take the following Native Studies courses:
