Specialist in Education, Elementary School Principal


The Specialist degree program in elementary school administration has been developed to meet specific needs and backgrounds of students. Based on this premise individual programs are developed through the cooperative efforts of the student, the faculty advisor, and the advisory committee. The emphasis in the development of individual programs is to provide a general background in educational administration. As well as specific preparation that may be unique to the field of elementary school administration, and the development of supportive area fields that will enhance the student’s ability to meet his/her educational needs and professional goals.

No one may be admitted to the Elementary Principal program unless he/she holds a teacher’s certificate (not a temporary permit) based on a Bachelor’s degree and has had at least three years of successful teaching experience.

Specialist in Education, Elementary School Principal, Plan A (thesis): Total 60 credit hours


  • Elementary Principal core 18 credit hours
  • Elementary Principal Specialist Internship 0-3 credit hours
  • EDAD elective courses 0-3 credit hours
  • Thesis 4 credit hours
  • Required supporting courses 6 credit hours
  • Supporting electives/outside courses 29-32 credit hours

Specialist in Education, Elementary School Principal, Plan B (non–thesis): Total 62 credit hours


  • Elementary Principal core 18 credit hours
  • Elementary Principal Specialist Internship 0-3 credit hours
  • EDAD elective courses 0-3 credit hours

Doctor of Education, Elementary School Principal


The Doctor of Education Degree program in elementary school administration has been developed to meet specific needs and backgrounds of candidates.   • Required supporting courses 6 credit hours
  • Supporting electives/outside courses 39–42 credit hours

Dissertation: 15 credit hours


Required supporting course work: 6 credit hours
