Audiology Doctorate (Au.D.)

The Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.) program is a four-year post-baccalaureate program consisting of three years of didactic coursework and on- and off-campus clinical rotations and a 4th year, full-time, external clinical placement. Students also are required to complete a research capstone project during their third year of study.  The department’s graduate programs in audiology and in speech-language pathology are nationally accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

Doctor of Audiology: Total 126-135 credit hours


  • Communication Disorders core 12-21 credit hours
  • Audiology core 105 credit hours
  • Electives 9 credit hours

Communication Disorders core course work: 11 to 20 credit hours


All graduate students working toward the completion of graduate degrees in Communication Disorders must meet the academic and clinical practicum requirements for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in their area of emphasis (Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology) by the end of their degree program. The ASHA requirements may be waived for international students. In addition, all graduate students are required to pass a comprehensive examination in the final semester of their graduate study. The Communication Disorders faculty will determine the content, form, and the length of the examination. Specific academic and clinical practicum requirements for the degrees and national certification are contained in the department’s Student Handbook. Consult your advisor or the department chairperson.

Elective Graduate Courses: 9 credit hours


In addition, a number of elective graduate courses are available to the student both within and outside the department. An additional nine credit hours of supporting course work also are required. Contact the Communication Disorders Department for additional information.
