Course Work
Students in all plans must complete course work in five of nine subject areas, including two courses in literature before 1800, two courses in literature since 1800, and one course in Linguistics, Writing, or Pedagogy. All students must also complete a course in Literary Criticism. At least one course must also be designated Multicultural Literature/Women’s Studies/Gender Studies. At least three courses must be 700- or 800-level (graduate only) seminars in English. Fifty percent of all graduate credit hours must be numbered 700 or above. Each student must also take written and oral examinations. A more detailed description of the requirements for the MA is available from the English Department.
