Year One - Fall (9 credit hours)

*Clinical Mental Health Counseling students are required to take all courses in-person during the first semester.

Year One - Spring (12 credit hours)

• COUN 713 - Administration of Clinical Mental Health Counseling Services 3 cr
• COUN 737 - Diagnosis and Intervention in Counseling 3 cr ^
• COUN 742 - Career and Life Span Development 3 cr ^ **
• COUN 790 - Seminar (C) -Law and Ethics in Counseling 3 cr ^

Year One - Summer (6 credit hours)

• COUN 736 - Appraisal Procedures in Counseling 3 cr ^
• COUN 743 - Foundations of Addiction and Co-Occurring Disorders for Professional Counselors 3 cr ^

Year Two - Fall (12 credit hours)

*Practicum Application due semester before practicum

• COUN 725 - Counseling Issues- Family, Children, and Adolescents 3 cr
• COUN 731 - Counseling Issues in Culture, Diversity, and Advocacy 3 cr ^ **
• COUN 738 - Childhood Through Adulthood Psychopathology for Mental Health Professionals 3 cr [Fall 3 if financial aid or scholarship eligibility is needed during year 3]
• COUN 780 - Crisis Intervention in Professional Counseling 3 cr ^

Year Two - Spring (12 credit hours)

*Students must take their comprehensive exams in the semester before internship.

All students are also required to participate in 10 hours of group experience before they graduate. This is typically done during the same semester as COUN 766 - Group Counseling .

• COUN 766 - Group Counseling 3 cr
• COUN 770 - Clinical Supervision Training and Ethics 3 cr [Spring 3 if financial aid or scholarship eligibility is needed during year 3]
• COUN 795 - Counseling Practicum 3 cr
• EDER 761 - Graduate Research & Design (C) 3 cr

Year Two - Summer (3 credit hours)

*Students must take their comprehensive exams in the semester before internship.

• COUN 740 - Psychopharmacology for the Nonmedical Mental Health Professional 3 cr

Year Three - Fall Internship (1-6 credit hours)

*Students must pass comps before they can begin Internship.

*Students may be expected to continue interning at their sites during the winter semester break.

Students generally take 6+ months to complete internship. 

Internship: Clinical Mental Health (total of 6 credit hours required)
1 Credit = 100 hours completed. 600 hours total needed. If more than 1 semester, Students can choose 1-6 credits.

Year Three - Spring Internship (1-6 credit hours)

Internship: Clinical Mental Health (total of 6 credit hours required)
1 Credit = 100 hours completed. 600 hours total needed. If more than 1 semester, Students can choose 1-6 credits.
