ANTH 240 - Linguistic Anthropology This course provides an introduction to the field of linguistic anthropology, the social scientific study of language. It examines how the languages that people speak reflect their cultural traditions, how the use of language reproduces those traditions, how categories of language are related to categories of thought, and how linguistic variation both reflects and helps shape social categories such as gender, ethnicity, and race.
